FINNISH AYRSHIRE BREEDERS SOCIETY

Finnish Ayrshire Breeders society was founded in September 2000. The original Finnish Ayrshire Society had ceased its activities in 1971 when all cattle and pig breeding societies merged and formed the Finnish Animal Breeding Association(FABA). The following years have meant great progress for animal breeding, especially considering production and quality of animal products. Allthough being efficient reaching the breeding goals, one multibreed organisation lacked conversation on breeder to breeder basis.

Further more during the last ten years the share of ayrshire cows has decreased constantly from 80 to 74 procents. At the same time the share of holstein-fresians has increased, mainly because of massive import of black and white genetics. After the Ayrshire World Conference in 2000 several breeders and cattle owners in Finland decided that a lot more has to be done on behalf of the biggest ayrshire population in the world.

The new Ayrshire society strives for improvement and promotion of the breed. Mutual meetings and seminars as well as publications encourage conversation among cattle owners. Society also takes iniative in matters concerning Ayrshire cattle and its breeding goals. There is a growing demand of high quality Ayrshire genetics both on national and global market. The society supports its member breedersīmarketing efforts by various activities. Modern dairy operations need productive, healthy and functional cows; we regard Finnish Ayrshire a perfect choice .
